The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards for the creative arts in two black tie ceremonies on Saturday, April 22, in New York at the Marriott Marquis Hotel and in Hollywood at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland.

Awards were presented in such categories as: Directing in a Talk Show; Casting Director for a Drama Series; Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design; Writing in a Children's series; Costume Design/Styling; Multiple Camera Editing; Music Direction and Composition; Direction in a Children's Special.

The Daytime Emmy Awards are presented to daytime television programs that are broadcast nationally between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. The eligibility period for this year's Daytime Emmy Awards was January 1st, 2005 - December 31st, 2005.

The Young and the Restless won four Daytime Emmys, including wins in Outstanding Achievement in Makeup, Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition, Outstanding Original Song and Outstanding Achievement in Technical Direction/Electronic Camera/Video Control. The CBS soap, which has been the top-rated soap opera for the better part of two decades, garnered the most overall nominations this year with 18 total Emmy nominations. Nine of those nominations came in technical categories.

All My Children, a dominant force in the technical categories in recent years, was held to just three nominations this year. The ABC soap was shut out in all the creative fields.

As the World Turns notched three wins with General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful each winning two Daytime Emmys. Passions earned this year's only Emmy win for NBC. The supernatural soap picked up gold in the Outstanding Achievement in Live & Direct to Tape Sound Mixing field.

By network, CBS won nine trophies, claiming wins in eight of the eleven categories open to soaps. There was a tie in one category this year, giving the network the extra Emmy count. ABC, which televised this year's awards, earned just two Emmys while NBC came in third with a single Emmy win.
