Hank and Luis were at the youth center. Hank saw Luis with a gun and asked if he was going to pull in trick-or-treaters for being over the blood sugar level. Luis said that the mugger had been spotted again, and he just wanted to be prepared because the mugger might be armed. Luis said that he wasn't expecting trouble at the center, but that one or two kids might want to cause mischief. Luis stated that he wanted everyone to have a good time.

Hank said that since he had once been one of those kids, it might be easier for him to spot troublemakers. He said that he would keep one eye on the kids and one eye on Sheridan. Luis warned Hank again about getting involved with the Cranes. Hank replied, " I only want to get mixed up with one of them." Luis said it wasn't possible to get one -- he would get them all, and they were dangerous. They wouldn't think twice about crushing anyone who got in their way.

Hank told Luis that he was wrong about Sheridan. Luis said that Sheridan might have Hank snowed because of her looks, but there was a side to her that Hank hadn't seen yet. Hank replied that he couldn't wait to see it.

At the Crane Mansion, Sheridan decided to go to the dance as a mugger. Ethan told Sheridan that she'd better be careful, or Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald might arrest her. Gwen and Ethan were also going to the dance. Ethan decided to go as the Phantom of the Opera, and Gwen decided to go as the Catwoman. Gwen wanted to fix Theresa up with the guy that Theresa had a crush on.

Sheridan wondered why Gwen would want to play matchmaker for Theresa. Ethan said that Gwen's motives weren't all that altruistic -- she just wanted to eliminate the person she thought was her competition for Ethan's affection. Ethan told Gwen how much he loved her. Sheridan told them that she was going with Hank. She described him as a nice man, but she was not serious about him.

Julian saw Ethan with his cape and thought Ethan was going to the opera. Ethan said that he was going to the Halloween dance, and Julian couldn't believe that Ethan wanted to mingle with the locals. He then accused Ethan of wanting to meet up with Theresa but warned that Ethan had better be aware of Theresa's brother. Gwen walked in, and Julian told her that she looked ravishing in her costume. He then told Ethan not to do anything that he wouldn't do. Ethan and Gwen left.

In Theresa's room, she and Whitney were dressed as women from the 18th or 19th century. Theresa had on a blonde wig. She said that she was wearing the gown of her dreams. She just wished that Ethan could see her in it. She then decided that maybe she would skip the dance altogether, go to the Crane Mansion, and be Ethan's Halloween treat. Whitney asked," Can't you just forget about Ethan for one night and have some fun?" Pilar walked in and said that it might be difficult because Ethan and Gwen would be at the dance. She'd heard them talking about it.

Pilar told Theresa to stay away from Ethan and Gwen. She also told Theresa what they would be dressed as. Theresa told Whitney that she would dance with Ethan, and if she didn't, she would buy Whitney lunch at the Book Café. Grace was dressed as a princess and was passing out candy to the children when Miguel showed up. Miguel wished that he could take Charity to the dance, but he couldn't, since she was still afraid of him. He hoped that by him taking Kay to the dance, Charity would see that she had no reason to be afraid of him.

The girls were upstairs, dressing for the dance. Charity was in a sea creature costume and could barely walk in the fins. Kay was dressed as an exotic dancer, and Simone was dressed as either Carmen Miranda or the Chiquita Banana girl. Charity was originally supposed to have gone as the dancer, but Kay had convinced her that guys would think she was easy and would hit on her if she showed up wearing that costume. Tabitha had given Kay the costume that Charity was wearing.

Jessica couldn't understand why Charity was wearing a different costume. Miquel told Jessica that he would be dressed as Bluebeard and that Reese was going as Zorro. Jessica got a mischievous look in her eyes.

Sheridan was still at home, waiting for Hank. She saw herself as a child with blood on her hands. Julian walked in, and she tried to get him to tell her what had happened and who she had killed. He told her to drop it and that he was not going to let her destroy the family again. She said that if no one would help her, then she would find out on her own what had happened.

Hank stopped by to pick up Sheridan. He took her into another part of town to show her what he had done when he'd been a kid. They got into a water balloon fight. Sheridan bought two cream pies from a guy and hid behind the bushes. She saw someone dressed as a cop and thought it was Hank. She jumped from behind the bushes and hit him smack in the face with the pies. The person she hit was Luis, and he looked angry.

Tabitha and Timmy were in the woods. A fire was going, and Tabitha was conjuring up demons to do her bidding. She said that she had to first release them from the bowels of the earth. Timmy told her that seemed like a tall order. Tabitha said that she might not have her powers back, but with the help of her charms, she would conjure up the demons from hell that very night. Tabitha threw the hair of a rabid dog into the fire, and the fire started to blaze. The demons wanted to be freed. Tabitha told the demons to destroy her enemies.

Tabitha then produced some special charms that she said were the eyes of her ancestors who had been burned alive in France. She told the children of the night to go to her. Many ghost-like figures emerged from the fire. Timmy said the smell was awful. Tabitha said it was the sweet smell of revenge. She asked the demons to give her the power to destroy Charity.

At the dance, Whitney was upset to see Chad. She said that Luis wouldn't like him there, messing around with the music. Chad said that Simone had asked Luis to hire him as the DJ. Whitney told Chad to stay away from her sister. Chad told Whitney that she had worn the wrong costume. She should have dressed as a witch. Theresa whisked Whitney away from Chad. She wanted to look for Ethan. Gwen and Ethan arrived. They didn't see Theresa. They started to dance. Theresa paged Gwen and pointed her in the direction of a phone.

When Gwen went into the closet to see if a phone was in there, Theresa locked her in. With a southern accent, Theresa told Ethan that she bet that he couldn't dance. He stated that he could, and they started to dance. He briefly wondered what was taking Gwen so long. He sensed something familiar about his dance partner and asked if they had ever danced before. Theresa shook her head no. Gwen was calling for help, but no one heard her.

Zorro asked Charity to dance. She stepped on his feet and feared that he wouldn't ask her to dance again. Jessica told her that Zorro was a friend of hers and that she was sure he would want to dance with her again. Zorro looked a lot like Miguel. Kay was dancing with Bluebeard. She looked over at Charity and Zorro dancing and said to herself that they made the perfect couple -- a match made in geek heaven.

Kay decided to kiss Bluebeard. She said that once Charity saw them kissing , she would give up on Miguel because she was such a goody-goody and wouldn't want to hurt Kay by going after Miguel. Jessica said to herself that Kay was finally getting what she deserved. Simone took a soda to Chad. He told her that he would play a special song for her. Whitney pulled Simone away from Chad and told her that if she didn't stay away from him, Whitney would tell their mother everything that had transpired.

Grace was at home, asleep on the couch. She was having a nightmare about the fire. She told Faith that she wouldn't let anything happen to Charity. A fire was going in the fireplace. Meanwhile, in the woods, Tabitha was telling the demons to fly as fast as they could to Grace's house and destroy it. She also said to wipe Grace off the face of the earth. The demons suddenly appeared in Grace's fireplace, and they surrounded her while she slept.

More demons were released, and Tabitha and Timmy were overjoyed. Tabitha sensed her powers were returning. Grace slept restlessly while demons emerged from her fireplace and surrounded her. Father Lonigan interfered with Tabitha's spells, and he prevented the demons from doing damage.

Many residents were gathered at the Halloween dance. Kay passionately kissed Bluebeard in front of everyone at the dance. Charity danced with Zorro, and Jessica refused to tell Charity who Bluebeard was. Whitney threatened to tell their mother about Simone if Simone didn't keep her distance from Chad. Simone told Whitney to get a life.

Theresa managed to lock Gwen in a storage room. Gwen escaped, and she found Ethan dancing with Theresa, who wore a disguise. During the dance, people took off their masks. Gwen was irate when she saw that Ethan had been dancing with Theresa. Theresa acted stunned when Ethan removed his mask. Gwen doubted it was a coincidence and believed Theresa was responsible for locking her in the closet. Charity was surprised to learn she had been dancing with Miguel. Kay was devastated to learn she had danced with and even kissed Reese. Jessica looked pleased with herself.

Sheridan hit Luis with cream pies when she thought he was Hank. Luis was angry, and Sheridan apologized. The mayor arrived at the dance and was very upset when he thought Luis was playing around. Sam defended Luis, but the mayor said he would fire Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald. Sheridan tried to explain, but Luis did not let her get involved. Sheridan tried to talk to the mayor, but it wasn't clear if that helped or made things worse.

Ivy triumphantly informed her husband that Ethan had remained loyal to Gwen despite Julian's immoral advice about the boy sowing some wild oats. Whitney warned Theresa that Gwen's radar was on high alert, and she'd do whatever she had to in order to keep Ethan for herself. Meanwhile, Gwen urged her lover to believe that the housekeeper's "innocent" daughter was out to snare him by hook or by crook.

Ivy and Julian's quarrel nearly turned violent and then passionate by turn. When his wife finally pulled away from him in disgust, Julian pressed Ivy for an explanation, but Pilar's timely interruption abruptly halted the Cranes' tête-à-tête.

Theresa told a skeptical Whitney that Ivy would never stand in the way of her love for Ethan. Gwen whined to Sheridan about Ethan being blind to Theresa's true intentions. Luis reminded his sister that every Crane was bad news and had to be avoided at all costs.

Later, Sam and Luis were summoned to the mansion for a dressing-down by an irate Julian. Ivy thanked Pilar for helping her keep her devastating secret. Believing she was speaking to her father, Whitney confided how she yearned to start dating then was mortified to discover that she'd actually been unburdening herself to Chad.

Thursday, November 4, 1999

Humiliated to realize she'd just bared her soul to Chad, Whitney railed at him for pretending to be her father. When Sam angrily refused to fire Luis, Julian threatened to use his influence to have Chief Bennett removed from his post.

Gwen was delighted to discover that Luis and Theresa's paths were set to cross at the Crane mansion. After quickly intervening to prevent Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald from spotting his kid sister, Sheridan scolded Gwen for deliberately attempting to get Theresa into trouble. Pilar and Ivy were alarmed to see Ethan trying to pry open the locket that contained Sam's picture.

Chad suggested to a bristling Whitney that she lay down her tennis racket and focus on getting a personal life that would fulfill her. Outraged to learn from Luis how Julian had meddled in her business, Sheridan furiously confronted her brother. As he watched Sheridan tear into Julian, Luis began to develop a grudging admiration for his attractive nemesis.

Ivy nervously asked Ethan to stop monkeying with the broken locket. Later, Ivy fainted dead away when Julian asked his son to become the new liaison between Crane Industries and the police department.

Friday, November 5, 1999

In the wake of the Halloween dance, Kay was aggravated to realize that her cousin had completely lost her fear of Miguel. Julian watched dispassionately as Sam and Ethan rushed to Ivy's aid. Pilar thanked Sheridan for helping Theresa evade Luis. Meanwhile, Luis ran into his sister outside the Crane mansion and angrily declared that she'd be sent to a convent school as punishment for disobeying his orders.

After Ethan went off to fetch his mother some ice, Ivy awoke and -- believing it to be twenty years earlier -- began happily stroking Sam's face. A sobbing Theresa begged her brother not to send her away from Harmony and everyone she loved. Overhearing Luis' ranting, Sheridan covered for Theresa by convincing Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald that the girl had only been making a delivery.

Still lost in her reverie, Ivy declared her love to a flustered Sam. Later, returning fully to her senses, Ivy fielded questions from Julian as he wondered if she was hiding something. Sheridan vowed to make amends with Luis if it turned out that the Cranes had somehow hurt the policeman's family.
